A French court handed down Friday suspended jail sentences to three officers in a rare case of alleged police brutality after a black man suffered irreversible rectal injuries.

Policeman Marc-Antoine Castelain, who was found guilty of a truncheon blow that seriously injured Theo Luhaka, received a 12-month suspended prison sentence. His colleagues Jeremie Dulin and Tony Hochart received 3-month suspended prison sentences for intentional violence.
