Euronews fires CEO Guillaume Dubois

Pan-European television channel Euronews has fired its chief executive, Guillaume Dubois, with immediate effect.

The Brussels-based media company’s board of directors made the decision Friday afternoon, according to a letter Dubois sent to his staff, seen by POLITICO.

Dubois, who was named CEO in June 2022, said in his email that he regrets the decision, and “the work carried out over the last two and a half years deserved to be continued.” 

According to Dubois, the company underwent an “incredible transformation” under his leadership, necessitated by its “disastrous financial health.” 

“Thanks to you, thanks to your daily commitment, the operating result for fiscal 2024 will be the best the company has seen in ten years,” Dubois wrote in the email.

One of Dubois’ biggest decisions was to move the media company’s headquarters to Brussels last year after being based in Lyon for decades. The move was painful as it meant cutting nearly 200 jobs in France. 

“I’m not forgetting the efforts made by each and every one of you to achieve these results, and even more so the painful redundancy plan implemented in Lyon. As you know, I took this terrible decision in the name of the recovery of Euronews,” Dubois wrote.
