Liz Truss gets her own movie

LONDON — It’s the blockbuster everyone’s been waiting for.

Liz Truss, Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister who was famously outlasted by a lettuce, is now the star of her very own movie.

A 35-minute documentary for the Wall Street Journal — boasting ominous music, moody shots of Whitehall, and a cameo from Steve McQueen — promises to analyze Truss’ 49 brief but tumultuous days in charge of Britain between Sept. and Oct. 2022.

It argues that the market turmoil, falling pound and soaring mortgage prices which followed Truss’ fateful 2022 mini-budget were not the result of her economic policies but an establishment stitch-up by “the blob” of bureaucrats culturally opposed to Truss’ tax-slashing agenda.

The documentary, “The Prime Minister vs. the Blob“, includes interviews with Truss and her defenestrated Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng, as well as reality TV star (and former Conservate Cabinet minister) Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Truss has made extensive media appearances since her departure from office. She’s trained her fire on august British institutions including the Treasury, the Bank of England and the Office for Budget Responsibility for thwarting her plans.

She described “the Blob” — which borrows its name from the 1958 Steve McQueen film about an alien lifeforms that “consumes everything in its path as it grows and grows” — as encompassing the entire U.K. political establishment.

It’s also, in her version of events, busy swallowing up much of the media and corporate world in the U.K. with a love of “big spending, big government, big taxes [and] big immigration.”
