Man arrested outside UK parliament after report of person with knives
The police said no injuries had been reported.
LONDON — A man has been arrested after reports of a person carrying knives outside the U.K. Houses of Parliament.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called at 2.01 p.m. Tuesday and detained a 34-year-old man on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, the London police force said in a statement.
The area around Carriage Gate — a prominent entrance to the Houses of Parliament — has been cordoned off. The police said no injuries had been reported.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson added: “At this early stage investigation it is not being treated as terror related.”
A U.K. parliament spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident outside Carriage Gates. Parliamentary Security and the Metropolitan Police are present and managing the situation.”
